Bansky's Best

I normally don't post items from Boing Boing, because I figure that everyone checks that site at least once a day, but this story is just too good.

Banksy shop-drops 500 remixed Paris Hilton CDs

UK graffiti virtuoso Banksy has smuggled 500 doctored versions of Paris Hilton's new CD into stores across the country. The CD contain Banksy's remixes and have titles like "Why am I Famous?," "What Have I Done?" and "What Am I For?"

His spokeswoman said he had tampered with the CDs in branches of HMV and Virgin as well as independent record stores.

He visited cities including Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and London, she added.

A spokesman for HMV said the chain had recovered seven CDs from two Brighton shops but was unaware that other locations were affected...

A spokesman for Virgin Megastores said staff were searching for affected CDs but it was proving hard to find them all.

"I have to take my hat off - it's a very good stunt," he added.

UPDATE

I copped an mp3 of Bansy's 40 minute remix! It's hot.

An American Tragedy

I just watched all 4.5 hours of Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke. All of the footage and stories are horrifying. Spike Lee does an incredible job of peeling back the media facade to tell the real story of New Orleans before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina.

It was incredibly depressing and overwhelming to see just how huge of a problem there is in New Orleans. The individual stories of loss were almost too much to take and realizing that thousands and thousands of people have similar stories and still need help leaves me speechless.

I found it really hard to watch at times, but am glad I did. I recommend that everyone does the same.

33 1/3

In honor of my move to Dreamhost, I created a promo code that I'll keep active for awhile. Just use the code "neongreen" when signing up for a new account to save $33.33 on your setup fee.

Art Coup

Boogie is easily my favorite street photographer. I'm blown away by the shots he's able to get. Gang members (pointing their guns AT HIS CAMERA!), crack addicts, extremists...the list goes on. This is the most raw and gritty shit I've seen. It scares me to think about how involved he gets with some of his subjects. A few of the images he's captured haunt me every day.

I just preordered his book. I already know that it will get a lot of wear and am thinking about ordering a second copy.

Denmark Press

My good friend, Brian, recently started a full-time job as a photojournalist for two newspapers in Denmark. This is really exciting for him and I'm looking forward to following his daily adventures on his new blog: notes from a photojournalist.
