Chi-town

I'm going to Chicago next week with my friend Brian. We're definitely going to hit Millennium Park to take photos. Any other 'must see' spots?

Flickr! Update - 40 Graffiti photos

After helping friends move for 6 hours, bringing one friend to the emergency room (everything is okay), and being totally exhausted, I somehow had the energy to walk around Minneapolis for an hour taking pictures. I just added 40 shots to my graffiti gallery on Flickr.

People LOVE wallpaper

I checked out my web stats today for the first time in a few months. I can sum it up in one sentence:

PEOPLE LOVE WALLPAPER.

I guess it's time to start paying attention to what the people want. Stay tuned...

Denmark's in da house!

Brian got in last night. I picked him up at the airport a little before midnight. It was really cool to meet him in person. We stayed up until about 2am chatting and generally geeking out about camera gear. Overall there were no surprises, although he's a little taller than I imagined.

Today we're going to hit the Mall of America, find a driving range to do a little golfing, and then go take photos when the sun is at its best this evening.

Denmark has left the building, Flickr sidebar

Brian's visit is over. I dropped him off at the airport on Sunday afternoon. It all went by so quickly. We had a great time exploring Minneapolis, driving through Wisconsin, taking photos in Chicago, playing video games, and even celebrating his birthday! He taught me a lot about Denmark and even gave me an official national hockey jersey from him as a gift. Sweet! I really hope to visit him next year.

As a side note, I can't sleep tonight and have been fiddling with adding my Flickr images to the sidebar. I've just begun experimenting with styling and placement, so there will likely be some changes in the coming days.

Ring the alarm

I think I've mentioned before that I have a Nokia 6350. One of the cool things about the phone is that it has a ring tone composer. Yesterday I made what may be the loudest and most annoying ring tone of all time. It's just two notes, C# and C, that are each about a second long and alternate back and forth indefinitely. Did I mention that it's LOUD? Oh, and I agreed to use this ringer for one week as a bet with a coworker.

Anyway, the ringer went off as the cashier at the grocery store was ringing up my order. She totally freaked out (like it was a register error), started hitting buttons frantically, and saying, "how do I get this dumb thing to stop beeping at me?". A couple other people were all, "what IS that?". It sounded like an alarm and was more than a little jarring. How am I going to get through the next week of this bet?

Take Five

I'm addicted to the Take 5 candy bar. I was really skeptical a month or so ago, but when I tried one I was hooked...in a big way. For the last few weeks it's been a one a day habit, but today I kicked it up to two. It's a problem, but they're probably the best tasting candy I've ever had. Seriously, chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter on top of a pretzel. Does it get any better?

On a related note, I heard a cool fact on the Sirius jazz station the other day: Paul Desmond, composer of the song "Take Five" and saxophonist for Dave Brubeck , died in 1977, leaving his entire estate, including the royalties for "Take Five", to the Red Cross.

Yashica T4 manual posted & Flickr photo updates

I just picked up a Yashica T4 Super manual. It took me awhile, but I got it scanned in and posted this past weekend. You can find it on the manuals page if you want to check it out.

I've been posting more photos than usual over at Flickr. I finally put up the photos that I took at the B-Girl Summit. I also put together a panoramic of the graffiti mural over on 1st Avenue in Minneapolis. Here are the links:

Oh, a couple people have asked how my phone ringer bet is going. I've passed the deadline and am keeping it until the weekend. It's actually pretty funny to watch people react when it goes off. It still surprises me once in awhile.

Yashica Electro 35 manual posted

I scanned and posted another manual today. This one is for the Yashica Electro 35.

That's all for now. Bye.

On the Fringe

I got the official email today, so I guess I can finally mention that I'm one of the photographers for the Fringe Festival this year. I'm excited and a little nervous, but not too nervous. This will be fun.

Skooter Du 6 is coming up too, so I'll be pretty busy with my camera for the next few weeks. I'll try to keep my Flickr page updated.

I'll probably be using my 20D for most shots, but I've been really into my film cameras lately, shooting about a roll each week with my Yashica T3 Super and Lomo. I'm not sure how it happened, but this weekend I accidentaly shot some slide film in my Lomo. It's at the lab now getting developed and I hope to have the slides this weekend. My scanner (HP 3970) has a slide adapter, but I'm not sure how good of a job it will do. I've been thinking about getting the Epson 4990, which is the number one item on my birthday list (two weeks from today...ahem!).

Benefit garage sale this weekend!

There's a HUGE benefit garage sale for my brother this weekend. If you're in Saint Louis Park area, stop by. Just take 169 to Cedar Lake Road, go east to Flag Avenue and head north about a half mile or so. You can't miss it!

I just got back from helping them set up and am pretty overwhelmed. The entire garage, yard, and driveway are packed full with tons of cool stuff from dozens of generous donors. You know who you are. Thank you!

I'm not sure if I mentioned his situation specifically in the past, but he's 31 and is being treated for brain cancer. He had emergency brain surgery in February, moved back to Minnesota from Arizona, and is going through intense chemo once a month for the next year.

You can read all about Keith's situation and the details of the sale in the MN Sun archives (sorry, this link appears to be dead after a redesign of the newspaper's website).
