Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I wish you all the best in 2005.
Dear Retail Websites
Dear Retail Websites,
Please list store hours along with your location search results. After hunting around for the store locater link in your site map, the least you could do is give me something other than your phone number. The hot tip that I can use "option number 2" is not enough to make me pick up the phone. Okay, so it was enough, but that still doesn't make it right and it made me feel like a monkey. That part was sweet, but that's not the point.
Anyway, one last thing. If you could get your physical stores to stay open past 6pm on Sundays, I'd appreciate it. It's 2005 and 6pm is the new 4pm, especially on nap days.
Ghetto Cruiser
What's worse than getting stuck with a PT Cruiser all week while your Jetta is having its door repainted? Being the guy in front of me who got the beige Ford Focus. Ouch.
I used to love getting rental cars until I got my new car this spring. I can't wait to get the Jetta back. The PT is so slow, uncomfortable and smells like an ashtray. I made sure to take out the extra insurance on it "just in case" I have to pull a Rockford (a reverse 180) and end up flipping it.
Thanks to a couple of people with too much time on their hands, I'm starting a new comment policy on this site. Things are going to stay the same for most of you, but I'm building rules that will allow me to approve certain comments before they are visible. So, if you post something and don't see it right away, rest assured that it will at least end up in my inbox.
Oh, if for some reason you can't get through my comments, you can still use my contact form.
Region Freezing
It's four degrees below zero, the heat isn't working and I'm freezing. If I could move my fingers, I'd write about how much I love my new region-free dvd player, how great it is to finally have a dvd burner and how sweet the Casshern dvd set is.
Dead Head
The robot header graphic is dead to me. Hopefully I'll come up with something new this weekend.
Making Headway
Behold the new header. Aside from some minor tweaking that I may do later this week, I'm pretty happy with it. I ended up using the fonts Guilty and Disgusting Behavior from misprinted type to create everything. That scratchy circle on the left and the splatter on the right are just asterisks from those fonts.
In other news, I almost bought a PowerBook yesterday. I say almost because I chickened out and decided that I need to stop spending money like a drunken sailor. I guess that was a good idea because PowerBook G5's are said to be shipping in a few months. Sweet!
Gmail Hacks
O'reilly released the second edition of Google Hacks recently and I decided to get it when I saw that chapter six is all about Gmail.
My favorite tip was learning that Gmail supports plus addressing. I tried to get a couple of people excited about this and was met with blank stares. Oh well, I still think it's great.
I also discovered Gmail-lite, a PHP library that lets you access Gmail from any browser, independent of Javascript support. It was pretty easy to set up, although I had to modify the code slightly to work on the server I used for testing. Attachments don't work as well as expected, but if you need access to your account and don't have a current browser, this is the way to go.
Here are some useful Gmail links
Do you know about other cool Gmail tricks or apps that I should check out? If so, drop it in the comments.
I still have a bunch of Gmail invites if anyone needs one or just wants to check it out.
Tripod for sale
I purchased a new tripod this weekend, which means my old one is now for sale. It's a Bogen 3021 (without head) and I'd like to get about $100 for it. If anyone is interested, let me know. The money will go straight into my Powerbook fund.
New Powerbook
Apple upgraded their line of Powerbooks today. Sweet! I'm getting one as soon as I can (hopefully sometime this week) and plan to use it as my primary computer. I'm pretty sure that I'll get the 15", but haven't decided if I need a dvd burner or not.
I haven't been at home much lately and am really struggling to stay on top of all the projects I have going on. I hope that having a laptop with me at all times is going to increase my overall productivity by allowing me to work wherever I am.
Speaking of productivity, I discovered Basecamp recently and am ADDICTED. I never thought that project management could be so fun. It's already helping me out more than I could have imagined and my clients seem to really like it as well. Check it out.
