Foreman Food Nation

As part of my attempt to swear off fast food I became the proud owner of an extra large Foreman grill this afternoon.

I played it safe (not that you'd know it by the burn on my hand) by making turkey burgers tonight and am hoping to branch out soon. I might give chicken a whirl later this week and see how it turns out.

Anyone have a recipe for something I should try making on the Foreman grill?

seventy seven seconds

I am currently obsessed with audio books and am mainly interested in non-fiction. As I've mentioned before, I'm now listening to Fast Food Nation.

Here's a clip of the most amazing seventy seven seconds so far. It's so ridiculous that I was cracking up while listening to it. You'll know what I mean if you give it a listen.

Supersuckers

Last night (thanks to my brother) I went to the Supersuckers show at the 400 Bar. They were great and did an amazing cover of "Hey Ya!".

Panther.NET

In an effort to further hone my .NET skills I installed Visual Studio .NET 2003 on my Windows XP Pro machine. That went fine. What's not so fine is that SQL Server can't be installed on Windows XP. I don't do any development that doesn't require a database, so I set up a Windows 2000 machine on my home network to run SQL Server. This is great, but also a pain because it means one more machine running all the time. Luckily, I found a solution.

Microsoft offers MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine) free of charge. It has most of the functionality of SQL Server and seems pretty easy to manage, although I'm used to having Enterprise Manager available. The install was a breeze and it will suffice for the local development that I want to do. Now it's time to get my learn on.

In the other world I live in, I finally upgraded my G4 to OS X Panther. There's been a Pro Tools update available that supports 10.3 for awhile. I've just been too busy/lazy to do anything about it.

Thanks to a pep talk from Jeremy I decided to go for it and upgrade. It went off without a hitch and I've even already updated Pro Tools.

Panther is such an improvement over Jaguar. I LOVE Expose and the Finder is almost perfect.

Finally, I subscribed to the O'reilly Safari Bookshelf service. It's like Netflix for computer books, only better. No more wasted paper, no more obsolete books on my shelves and no more regretted book purchases. I'm already loving it.

gmail!

I have a gmail account! Thanks to Gilbert for the invite. I'll get that iTunes gift card to you in the next couple of days.

In unplugged news: I'm as red as a lobster after being out in the sun during yesterday's golf outing. We played from noon until 4:30. That's the longest amount of time I've spent outside in years. It felt good. I really needed that time to just relax and be away from the Internet for awhile.
