Photographer of the Week
I spent the day with some new friends, saw Big Fish and came home to some good news. I can't imagine a better start to the new year.
What's the good news? Well, I can hardly believe my eyes, but I made Photographer of the Week at istockphoto.com. I feel honored and humbled.
Since I first stumbled across istockphoto over 2 years ago it has been one of my 5 favorite sites. I check it almost obsessively and use it exclusively for any stock photo needs.
twenty seven from 2003
I spent a lot of time in 2003 trying to become a better photographer. I have chosen some of my favorite shots of the year to share. Some you have seen, many you have not.
I present twenty seven from 2003.

I stumbled across some really great photos at delika.ca. I'm hoping to acquire "Frankfurt Trainstation" in a size suitable to hang behind my couch.

School starts up again tomorrow night. I'm really not ready to jump back into doing homework and giving up two nights a week to lectures. I guess the only saving grace is that I'm actually interested in the subject matter.
Odd link of the day: housegymnastics.com.

I guess that taking your complaint to the streets works once in awhile. Apple is finally selling an AppleCare plan for the iPod. $59 seems like a reasonable price. You can also get an iPod battery replaced for $99, which is much better than the previous $280 option.
I remember asking for an AppleCare plan when purchasing my iPod just a few months ago and was told they didn't sell them because iPods were too fragile if dropped. I thought that was a terrible reason and I'm glad that Apple has changed their tune.
tutorials
You'll notice a new section in the navigation dedicated to tutorials. So far there are only two. One is the ol' classic that covers pseudo streaming mp3 files. The other is the long awaited textamerica tutorial that will (hopefully) show you how to host your most recent image using php.
This is my first attempt at writing tutorials and I'm really interested in feedback, so please contact me with questions or suggestions.
Gigantic
I apologize for the lack of posts, but I've been pretty sick for the last week with a bad cold. I haven't done much other than watch tv and movies. I finally saw Gigantic and the first season of CYE.
dental racket
Last night a friend and I took my brother out for a small bachelor party. Good times were had. Photos will be destroyed to protect the innocent.
When I got home I fired up my pc and it hung at the point just before it normally kicks into Windows. First time that's happened. I cycled the power and all was fine and has been fine today.
That said, I have a sinking feeling about it and wonder if I should go get that new Seagate hard drive I've been wanting and rebuild my system tonight.
I'll decide about that later. Now I have to get ready to go buy a suit. I should be able to get everything for just under what I found out it's going to cost to get my broken tooth fixed.
I think dental insurance is one of the bigger rackets these days. So much for that new lens I've been saving for.
Follow-up: I'm back from shopping. I got a really great suit for under $500 and have an appointment with a personal shopper to help revamp my wardrobe.
I am the worst when it comes to buying clothes. There are some years that I don't buy one piece of clothing. I promised myself that this year things will be different. I'm so tired of going to work every day in the same old khakis and Plain McBoring shirts. I need to learn how to shop for myself.
the switch
For the past three years I've had two computers set up side by side; a Windows XP machine and a Mac running OS X.
I use my Mac mainly for iTunes, ProTools and Reason. I use the Windows machine for web development, email, surfing and gaming.
I am in the process of moving everything over to the G4. I really want to use the Mac almost exclusively and move away from Windows for everything but my day job and gaming.
There is now just one thing keeping me from making a complete switch and I'm hoping you all can offer some suggestions. What is the preferred email client for OS X? I am used to Outlook and the default Apple mail client doesn't feel robust enough. Am I missing something?
Thanks to anyone who helps out.
20mm of fun
Big news! I was on my way to buy a Canon EF 16-35mm lens this afternoon and not looking forward to the price tag. I decided to call another camera shop at the last minute and see if they had any used wide-angle lenses. I scored huge. They had a Canon EF 20mm for only $350!
I went there, looked at it and tested it out. It appeared to be in perfect condition, so I bought it.
I'm excited to get home and take some test shots with it. I'm even more excited that I spent $1,000 less than I planned to. Hopefully I'll like it enough to keep it. Stay tuned.
the switch
This morning I finally decided to make the switch. I moved all of my email accounts and the CF card reader to my G4. I haven't turned the pc on since, but will soon to get at my address book and bookmarks. Other than that, I think the PC will just be used for .NET and some gaming.
A big thanks to Jeremy for showing me how to use Final Cut Express last night. I got a digital video camera the other day and hope to start messing around with it. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to post any movies.
While I'm at it, I better thank Meghan for creating a hopeless addiction to Tetris World. I had every intention of shopping for my brother's wedding gift today, but came home with nothing more than that evil game.
