I just saw the weirdest thing. I was driving down the street about 7 blocks from my house and the car in front of me jumped onto the median, smoked a couple of traffic signs and then kept driving like nothing happed. My instinct was to call 911 and follow the car for awhile, but I didn't. I was selfish and just wanted to go home.

I feel kind of bad now about not doing anything. I also feel a little sick to my stomach. What kind of person does that? Were they drunk? Were they a criminal on the run? Was someone hurt? I'm the worst. I should have called 911.

Many changes ahead. I'm recoding the site in PHP and moving to a new server. I've been with my current host since day one and feel a bit guilty for leaving. They've been so great to work with, but the time has come to move to Linux servers and cheaper pricing.

My schedule and stress level lately have been pretty crazy, so this transition may take a month or two. I'll be sure to give updates along the way.

Let me know what you think of my new wallpaper. I'm diggin' it.

My porn name is Gunther Strong. What's yours?

Thanks to Netflix I just watched "Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy". It was really quite interesting. He was portrayed as a fragile, desperate person and seemed pretty normal. Some surprising facts: he is an amazing classical pianist, holds a brown sash in Kung Fu and his parents were in the CIA.

The transfer has begun. I've started moving my site over to the new host. However, I'm not going to officially make the switch for a little bit. I still have to tackle the MSSQL to MySql conversion and am not looking forward to it. I'm swamped with homework and am doing lots of web development at work, which diminishes my desire to do it at home.

I think this will be my last post for a couple of weeks. Last night I started testing the database conversion and transfer of data and it seems like it will go fairly well. Once that is complete, I will have to recode all ASP to PHP. That will take a little while.

In more exciting news, I'm going to Florida for a long weekend...if I can get up at 5am for my flight later this week. I better load up my iPod with lullabies so I can sleep on the plane.

See you all when I get back and stay tuned to my moblog. I'll try to update it a few times a day or so while I'm away.

Sweet! Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming out on DVD in a couple months!

In other news:
I've decided to keep the posting alive during my site transition. I planned on trying to cram all of the work into a few days, but have decided to take some of the pressure off of myself. It'll cost me an extra month of hosting, but I think I'll be healthier for it.

Seven hours from now my plan is to be on the road, headed to the airport. By this time tomorrow I will be relaxing in Florida and sorting my Epcot souvenirs. I'm going to try to relax and not think about school, work or this site. I might post a few photos...or I might not. See you all when I get back.

I made it back this afternoon. I had a good time and have lots of pictures to post, but that will wait until later this week. For now, it's back to reality. I have lots of homework to catch up on and have to hit it hard at work for the next few weeks to get a project done.

Whoa! Just discovered this iPod media card reader. Sweet.

Tonight I was chatting a little bit with a hot clerk while she was ringing up the film I brought in to have developed. I was checking out the pink streaks in her hair and trying to seem cool when she said the magic words, "I like your signature. It looks like graffiti." I loved that. Guess I'm going to have to use the Lomo a lot this week so that I have more film to bring in.

I just learned that Elliott Smith killed himself. I can't believe it and feel sick to my stomach.

I've had the opportunity to see him live several times and was blown away each time. I remember seeing him do a solo acoustic show at the 400 Bar. I was so sick with mono, but insisted on going anyway. On another occasion at the 400 Bar I saw him play drums for Quasi.

Two times that I saw him I recorded the shows. The recordings turned out amazingly well. I might post them later and leave them up for just a couple days.

Here are some of the more interesting Lomo shots I took in Florida last week. Check them out (pop-up) and let me know what you think.

I just upgraded to OS X Panther v10.3. I love the new features. The improved Finder is worth the upgrade alone. MicroCenter had a great deal. They threw in a Macally 64mb usb flash drive for FREE! That's $40 that I was considering spending anyway.

That said, all is not well. The main use for my mac is music and audio. Pro Tools does not run under 10.3 and causes the OS to crash when attempting to open it. DigiDesign is planning to release an update in a couple of weeks. I wish I knew about this before I upgraded or I would have waited. It's my mistake for not looking at that and I now feel like I should re-install 10.2.8 and just hang onto Panther for awhile before sticking with the upgrade. Guess that's the price of living on the edge!

I spent a good deal of the day rebuilding my G4, nothing against Panther. I loved what I saw, but I just could not deal without having ProTools running. I also created most of a simple guest-book application in PHP/MySql for a friend and did a Flash intro for another site. I know, I hate Flash intros too.

TextAmerica forced an upgrade of all templates, so my moblog now sports one of the default themes again. I'll customize it soon, but not this week.

Wednesday, October 29th, 2003

Okay, so I lied. I spent a couple hours customizing my Moblog. It was a frustrating good time. TextAmerica is so popular that their servers chug sometimes, making testing and updating a pain.

One thing I noticed immediately is that their default templates are not very friendly to Firebird, Safari and other popular browsers. Most obvious was that the upper-left graphic does not show in Firebird. I first had to figure out what changes to make to the CSS just to get it working. I then modified it a bit. View the source if you want to see what I ended up doing.

So far I've tested the appearance in IE6/Win and Firebird 0.7/Win. I'll look at it on my G4 later tonight. I'm not going to bother validating it, since I do not have full control over key parts of the code.

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

I'm thinking about going to see Quasi tonight at the 400 Bar with my brother and his friend after I get out of school. I haven't been to a concert in a long time and this might be fun. Check out their new album and website.

Friday, October 31st, 2003

I'm so tired today. I was up until after 2am last night. I've been going crazy on Halloween candy today trying to stay awake. When I get home I'm going straight to bed for a long nap. I'm hoping the office closes down early.
