On Saturday my mom, brother and I are driving 4 hours north to move my grandma to a senior apartment complex close to us in Minneapolis. She's lived in a small town called Babbitt, MN for 46 years. This will surely be a change. I am excited that she will be down here, but it is a little sad to see her move from a place that I associate a lot of my childhood with.

Dude, where's my car?

Monday, August 5th, 2002

Scary and exciting. I'm closing in on 30. Only 2.25 days to go. The good thing is that I am taking 11 straight days off from work and am planning on finishing this site (for now) and getting through 3-4 computer books I've been putting off for a couple months. The web cam should be in full effect for most of my time off.

Tomorrow I turn 30. I have a really weird feeling today. I've never thought that I would live to see this age. I can't explain why, but my entire life I have felt that I would die before I turned 30.

I don't have any big plans. I'm just going to dinner with my mom, brother and grandma. I think my brother's girlfriend is coming too. Friday I have a golf lesson and am getting new tires on my car. Saturday my dad and stepmom are coming down to hang out. Then...Bam!, my full week off from work starts. I live for this one week each summer where I get to stay home and pretend that I live a life of leisure.

I should mention that my grandma's move went well. You can check out pictures here.

Happy birthday to me.

We're going to California Pizza Kitchen to celebrate tonight.

My golf lesson today was great. I really learned a lot in that hour and I have a huge blister on my thumb.

After my lesson I had to go pick up my car. Nobody was around to give me a ride, so I ended up walking about 4 or 5 miles in the mid day sun with my golf bag on my back. It was brutal, but I probably shed a pound or two.

Headache. Tired. Might go back to bed. Happy vacation.

I woke up from my nap to the new of my brother's engagement and an incredible Hillman Curtis audio interview.

I'm addicted to The Sims. I know, I'm late to the party.

Monday, August 12th, 2002

Big news! MicroCenter has a 40 percent off sale on all WROX books. This includes the entire friends of ED series. This is an awesome deal that lasts through the end of August. I picked up 3 Flash books that I've been wanting.

I have discoverd my favorite site on the web. There is much to explore.

My vacation is almost over and I am just starting to enjoy myself. My beard is finally growing out to a somewhat respectable length. I may leave it and see what kind of reaction I get at work on monday.

In other news, I've gotten through a couple Javascript books and have learned a lot. I've also started to tackle Flash MX in a major way and messing with Quictime Pro, Rebirth and iMovie. I should have some samples up in the designs section soon.

Here's a drumbeat that I programmed into my Alesis SR-16 drum machine last night, trasferred to MiniDisc, transferred to CD, edited in CoolEdit and imported into Flash MX.

While I like my job and am thankful to get paid to do web work, coming back from vacation sucks. I was really getting into a nice groove last week. I feel like I was finally starting to loosen up, get more creative and generally enjoy myself more than I have in a long time. This morning I was smacked back into reality when my alarm went off. Days like today make me want to go back to teaching drum lessons and playing in a band.

An actual message that all residents of my apartment complex received this afternoon:

"We need your help. Today, shortly after 1pm, a tall, dark haired white male with big earrings was seen zipping up his pants as he got off the elevator. The next person to get on the elevator could smell urine and there was a wet spot on the carpet."

I've update the wallpaper section with a couple new things over the past few days. Check it out.

I've got a hot date tomorrow night. Well, not quite. I'm going to the Apple store at the Mall of America at 10:20pm for the release of OS 10.2, code named "Jaguar" (or as Steve Jobs says, "Jag-wire"). I know that I've said I wasn't going to upgrade just yet, but I can't help it. I feel drawn to the event tomorrow night and am already visualizing myself winning one of the door prizes.

Friday, August 23rd, 2002

Plans have changed. I checked my cell phone bill today to see that it is $418. I don't think I'll be purchasing OS 10.2 tonight. This really stings. I can afford the cell bill, but it will really cut into my "crazy money" for the next few weeks. Damn, I've really got to start watching my phone usage. Work covers my cell bill, but there is no way in hell I can ask them to pay a $400 bill. Oh well, I guess I just have to eat it and not be so free with my phone from now on.

Friday, August 23rd, 2002

Okay, this is my final answer: I've decided to go to the Apple store tonight. It turns out that there will be all sorts of discounts and prizes that I can't handle missing out on. I'm having delusions of hearing my name drawn for the grand prize.

If 10.2 is discounted tonight I will buy it. If not, I will wait and just get it on Amazon for $119 with free shipping and no tax.

Just added permanent links to each of my posts. Let me know if there are any problems.

Saturday, August 24th, 2002

I just stood in line for 3 hours to decide that I wasn't going to pay retail for Jaguar. I should have stayed home. I was expecting maybe 100 people, but there had to be 300 or 400. It was crazy. Oh well, at least I got to listen to a bunch of idiots in front of me reviewing movies and video games for the entire time. Guess I'll have to hit Amazon tomorrow to make my purchase.

Friday, August 30th, 2002

I have to thank the guys at Chicagowebs for being so great and staying up with me until almost 11pm Wednesday night to make sure that my SQL upgrade was taken care of.

Friday, August 30th, 2002

With little or no fanfare, Netscape 7 was released this week.

Friday, August 30th, 2002

I can't wait to go home and try CandyBar. (swiped from z)

Saturday, August 31st, 2002

Just picked up a pair of Sony headphones. They sound so good. I am so pumped to try them at work next week. I usually don't listen to anything other than cnet radio at my desk, but I'm going to try bringing cd's in with my new headphones and see if that helps my concentration level. It's so easy for me to get distracted by everything going on in the office and I'm hoping the headphones will transport me into my own little world.
